Chris is a Senior Advisor with Heritage. As an 8th generation entrepreneur, Chris serves as an Investor, Strategic Advisor, Mentor, Capital Connector and Board Member for growing private companies. Chris is an Entrepreneur in Residence at Emory University's Goizueta Business School where he teaches and coaches start-ups. Formerly a President and CEO, he has operating experience in starting, growing and scaling organizations. Chris ran a PE backed company as CEO for 7 years. Additionally he is seasoned in financial strategy, mergers and acquisitions, corporate governance and succession planning. He brings over 30 years of experience as a professional investor and trusted financial advisor to business owners and corporate executives across a wide variety of industry verticals.
Chris co-founded Brightworth in 1997, a national fee-only wealth management firm based in Atlanta, currently managing client investment assets in excess of $3 Billion. During Chris’ twelve year tenure as CEO, the firm grew assets under management over 600%, won numerous industry awards and maintained a client retention rate of 98%. He negotiated a transaction to sell part of the company to a private equity firm and implemented a long-term succession plan to transition equity ownership to the next generation of partners. Chris was named one of the nation’s top 100 Financial Advisors by both Barron’s and Robb Report/Worth. He has been featured or quoted by numerous national media including: Bloomberg Businessweek, Fox Business News, Investor’s Business Daily, Money, The New York Times, TIME and The Wall Street Journal.
Chris earned his MBA with honors from Emory with concentrations in Entrepreneurship and Finance. He graduated Magna Cum Laude in Accounting from Mississippi State University and began his career with a Big 5 public accounting firm. Chris spent three years in Dan Sullivan's Toronto-based Strategic Coach program for entrepreneurs around the globe. He completed the IMCA Alternative Investments program at Wharton and the Mergers & Acquisitions executive course at Stanford. Chris is a National Association of Corporate Directors Governance Fellow and has been an Advisory Board member for two NASDAQ listed companies: SEI Investments (SEIC) and Morningstar (MORN). He is a CPA and a Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst.
Chris and his wife Laura have two children. He is an Eagle Scout and has been a volunteer, board member or consultant for numerous charitable organizations over the past 30 years. Chris is a member of the Atlanta Athletic Club and enjoys golf and travel.
